Chapter 6 Reflection: J. Gatsby Revealed

Gatsby was not a wealthy man when he was young.  He had to put in hard work to pay for his way through college working as a janitor.  Oxford was not the college that he attended, despite all of the rumors.  James Gatz was born on a North Dakota farm.  He made a brand new image of himself by changing his name to J. Gatsby and by calling himself the Son of God.  He was ashamed of having parents that were poor.  "The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself."  The conception of himself was that he was just a farmer boy.  In order to escape his upbringing he created a new identity for himself.  This new identity brought him great wealth, but would it be all he dreamed of?  Tom has introduced himself into the affairs of Daisy and Gatsby.  Tom is suspicious that Daisy and Gatsby spent the day alone together.  I am predicting that he will find out about Gatsby's and Daisy's love affair.  Gatsby and Tom will both have dirt on each other.  It is only a matter of time before Tom and Gatsby clash.  Go Gatsby Go!
